Ramankutty, a dedicated and honest ferryman, lives a humble life with his wife Thangam and their young daughter. Driven by a promise made to his late mother, Ramankutty sacrifices his own well-being and works tirelessly to finance the higher education of his younger brother, Chandran. Chandran excels academically and in sports, earning the affection of Chandrika, the daughter of Deputy Superintendent of Police Ramadas.
Meanwhile, a local smuggling syndicate led by Rajan operates along the riverways. When a violent incident occurs near the ferry, the gang threatens Ramankutty's family, coercing him into silence. Unaware of the gang's intimidation, Chandran completes his training and joins the police force as an inspector. Assigned to investigate the smuggling ring, Chandran uncovers circumstantial evidence that points toward his own brother. Bound by his oath to law and justice, Inspector Chandran reluctantly arrests Ramankutty, causing deep grief to Thangam and the family.
Ramankutty endures imprisonment without revealing the truth to protect his family from the smugglers' threats. Determined to uncover the real criminals, Chandran continues his investigation alongside loyal allies. A dramatic confrontation at the gang's secret lair leads to the defeat and arrest of Rajan and his henchmen, fully vindicating Ramankutty. Cleared of all charges, Ramankutty is warmly reunited with his family, and Chandran's marriage to Chandrika is celebrated with joy.
