Asha, a schoolteacher, manages her household finances single-handedly while living in a rented house with her son, Vinu, and her ailing mother, who eventually passes away. Vinu, a pharmacy graduate, has been unemployed for nearly two years. Struggling with the despair of unemployment, he relapses into smoking and drinking. Asha, who is on medication for clinical depression, grows increasingly frustrated with Vinu's inability to secure a job and support the family.
Soon, Vinu begins to witness strange, inexplicable occurrences around the house, sensing a malevolent, unseen entity. He initially assumes the phenomena are manifestations of his mother's growing resentment towards him, but he soon realizes the presence is entirely separate. Disturbed by his erratic behavior and a public drunken brawl, Asha and her brother convince Vinu to see a mental health counselor, George, though Vinu refuses to cooperate.
As Asha begins to experience the terrifying phenomena herself and realizes her son is telling the truth, George conducts an independent investigation. Speaking with the neighbors, he uncovers a grim history of mass deaths inside the house. Years prior, the owner's son had murdered his wife and daughter before hanging himself. A subsequent tenant, a bank manager, narrowly escaped death but was left permanently paralyzed. George discovers a chilling pattern: the house preys on tenants who are already suffering from severe emotional setbacks, driving them to behave irrationally and turn violent.
Vinu tries to confide in his girlfriend, but she dismisses his fears. Meanwhile, his uncle, convinced of Vinu's insanity, prepares to have him committed to a psychiatric facility. Pushed to her breaking point by depression and hopelessness, Asha laces their dinner with poison. However, during the meal, mother and son share a rare, emotionally honest conversation, leading them to reconcile. Realizing she wants to live, Asha discards the poisoned food.
Immediately after their reconciliation, the spirits in the house manifest in full force, violently terrifying them. Working together, Asha and Vinu manage to survive the night and escape the house. The following morning, having finally repaired their bond, Asha and Vinu pack their belongings and permanently vacate the cursed property with the assistance of George and the uncle.
