Jennie Lee is the lead singer of the all-girl Baltimore rock band, the Mystery. At her high school graduation, Jennie gives her valedictorian speech while fellow band member and bass guitarist Daryle accepts a proposal from her high school sweetheart Frankie. Jennie and the band are going to Florida to audition for a gig at a nightclub for the summer.
